We’ve often talked about the dumbing down of the American academic system, and nothing is more proof positive of this than a major college, such as the University of Michigan, now doing away with grades in the first semester for incoming freshmen.
Wow! What a horrible message that sends to China and our other competitors around the globe.
It’s already bad enough that student test performance in a large swath of America in the K-12 system has been dismal over the last few decades. Now we’re bringing these low expectations to the university system as well.
Perhaps one of the reasons that colleges have to do away with grades in the first semester is that our K-12 system is so horrific that large numbers of incoming freshmen can’t even do remedial math or reading.
But instead of improving the outcomes in high school to make these students more prepared for college, the universities are just lowering the standards on their level as well.
This comes as New York State recently decreed the Regents tests optional and lowered the threshold for passing grades on other testing.
The crazy woke folks who control our schools claim this is necessary because the test results vary from one ethnic group to another.
But rather than improving scores for all, they ditch the scores for all, just as they did with enforcing discipline.
The downward spiral our nation is facing because of these woke educators must be challenged. The fabric and the future of our American institutions are dependent on it.
