Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico and Councilman Neil Manzella were in attendance on April 28 as the town carried out the demolition of a condemned and unsafe structure located at 12 Impala Drive in Centereach.
The property had long been the subject of concern due to hazardous conditions. Multiple inspections revealed severe structural deterioration, including a partially collapsed rear section of the home with exposed framing and interior systems. The structure had sustained significant damage from prolonged exposure to the elements and showed evidence of mold, rot, and rodent infestation throughout. As a result, the home was deemed unsafe for occupancy and officially condemned.
The house was taken down by the town’s contracted demolition team. All costs associated with the demolition will be charged back to the property owner.
“As supervisor of the town, I remain committed to addressing unsafe and unsound structures and will continue working to eliminate blight in communities across Brookhaven,” Panico said. “It is never ideal to see a home demolished, but taking action on properties like this is necessary to protect our neighborhoods and improve the quality of life for our residents.”
“For too long, this home was left in dangerous conditions affecting the entire neighborhood,” Manzella said. “While heartbreaking to see a house demolished, many of the neighbors came out thankful and excited to see what will ultimately be an improvement to their quality of life.”
