New York State Police (NYSP) are investigating an incident at a pier in which a person was found dead.
On August 7 at approximately 8:37 p.m., NYSP, along with New York State Parks Police, Suffolk County Marine Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard, all responded to Captree State Park Piers for reports of a boating incident. Investigation revealed a 58-year-old man attempted to launch his 16-foot Boston Whaler from the pier. His vessel was observed striking the docks multiple times before capsizing.
The victim’s body was able to be recovered from underneath the vessel and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
This incident remains an ongoing investigation.
