A pair of kayakers were rescued by Nassau County and Oyster Bay police when their kayaks were pushed out into the waters by very strong winds.
According to police, two men ventured out on their kayaks south of Alhambra Beach in Massapequa on June 15 when strong winds and currents pushed them further from shore preventing them from paddling back. The kayakers called 911 for assistance and Nassau County Marine Bureau 6, Nassau County Helicopter 4 and the Town of Oyster Bay Bay Constables located the kayakers at 6:35 p.m. The men, along with their kayaks, were taken aboard the vessels and transported back to shore safely.
No injuries were reported.
The public is reminded to exercise caution by monitoring weather and water conditions before operating small or personal watercraft and to always wear a life preserver.
