Police, First Responders Help Deliver Baby in Car

A Suffolk County Police officer, and a paramedic and EMT from East Moriches Rescue assisted a mother in delivering her baby in a vehicle in Eastport early this morning. 

Police responded to a 911 call on June 16 at 4:13 a.m. reporting a woman in active labor in the passenger seat of a Nissan Pathfinder parked on the side of southbound County Road 51. Seventh Precinct Officer Amanda Brisson arrived and assisted the mom to prepare for delivery in the vehicle. When East Moriches Rescue  arrived, Paramedic Steven Diamantopoulos and EMT Ben Cohen took over and successfully delivered a  baby girl.  

The mother, 22, of Riverhead, and baby girl were transported in good condition by East Moriches  Rescue ambulance, driven by Origen Symes, to Stony Brook University Hospital for further evaluation.
