Members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Marine Bureau rescued two stranded jet ski operators in Shinnecock Bay during a routine patrol.
On June 27, while on patrol, Marine Bureau Deputy Sheriffs observed a jet ski taking on water with two individuals in the water holding onto the personal watercraft. Upon closer inspection, deputies determined that the jet ski was disabled. The riders had overturned the jet ski and had been stranded in the bay for more than 30 minutes. Marine Bureau deputies safely brought both individuals and the watercraft back to shore. Neither rider was injured.
“The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Marine Bureau is out on patrol to help ensure everyone can enjoy our waterways safely throughout the summer,” said Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. “I commend our Deputy Sheriffs for their quick response in rescuing these stranded jet ski operators and bringing them safely back to shore.”
