Nassau County police responded to a Bethpage home where a grenade was found inside.
On August 5 at 10:53 a.m., a 60-year-old woman was cleaning the basement of her Bethpage residence and found a possible explosive device. Responding officers secured the scene and notified Nassau County Emergency Services Unit and Arson Bomb Squad Detectives.
Arson Bomb Squad Detectives deemed the item to potentially be a World War II-style grenade and secured the item prior to removing it. The device was removed to a safe location and destroyed.
Detectives determined there is no further risk to the public.
The investigation is ongoing.
