Will Be Held in Recognition of Veteran Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Day

North Hempstead Town Councilwoman Christine Liu announced the passage of a resolution designating September 22 as Veteran Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Day in the town, honoring the veterans we have lost to suicide while raising awareness of the importance of supporting those who have served our country.

To commemorate this designation, the Town will hold a flag-raising ceremony on September 14 at 9:00 a.m. The Veteran Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Flag will be raised and remain on display through the end of the month, serving as a visible symbol of remembrance, awareness, and hope.

The resolution recognizes the profound impact veteran suicide has on families, friends, fellow service members, and communities. It also encourages residents to learn more about the challenges facing veterans and to help create a community where veterans feel supported, connected, and valued.

The event is open to all town residents.
