Five people were aboard a 17-foot boat fishing in the Long Island Sound near Asharoken on August 3, when their boat began to take on water, at 5:25 p.m. One of the men called 911 and reported the boat was halfway filled with water.

Police Officers John Dreyer, Dave Froehlich, and Jack Hardy responded in Marine Bravo. The officers pulled their boat alongside the men and pulled them onto Marine Bravo. All five men were taken aboard  the police vessel unharmed.

The officers de-watered the sinking vessel and towed it safely to the Soundview Boat Ramp in  Northport.
