The Suffolk County Comptroller’s Office has successfully recovered $47,841.98 in unclaimed funds, it was announced on August 18.
Unclaimed funds can include old bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance refunds, utility deposits, and stock certificates. The dormant accounts are turned over to the Office of the State Comptroller. There is an online claim process to search for and claim lost money.
“I am committed to safeguarding all taxpayer dollars,” said Comptroller John M. Kennedy, Jr. “My office has already submitted another 150 claims to New York State for review. I will ensure that all of Suffolk County’s unclaimed funds are pursued and accounted for.”
