A Wyandanch man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting a man in the chest in the parking lot of a casino two years ago.
On May 31, 2024, at approximately 10:16 p.m., the victim was walking in the parking lot on his way into Jake’s 58 Casino when Nashawn J. Legros fired two shots directly at him, striking him two times. The victim was able to get up, and with assistance, made it inside the casino before collapsing. Immediately after firing at the victim, Legros fled the scene in a vehicle which he later abandoned in Central Islip.
The victim suffered two gunshot wounds. One bullet entered his chest and travelled through his body cavity, striking multiple organs including his intestines, colon, and diaphragm. Surgeons used over 40 staples to repair the damage. Subsequent procedures were performed to remove fluid around his heart and lungs. One bullet remains lodged in his pelvic bone.
On February 25, 2026, Legros, 26, pleaded guilty before Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a Class B violent felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony. On June 8, 2026, Legros was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
“This brazen act of violence has no place in Suffolk County,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “My office is committed to holding violent offenders accountable. That message should be clear from this sentence as the defendant will now spend a decade in prison for this violent attack in a public place.”
