Third Person Arrested for Alleged Role in Deadly Fight

A third person has been arrested for a fight that took place in Shirley earlier this week which resulted in the death of another person.

A resident of the home located in Shirley called 911 on June 14 at approximately 7:30 p.m. to report a fight that injured a man who rents a room at the location. When police arrived, they found  Christopher Martin seriously injured. 

Martin, 48, was transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead a short time later.  

Following an investigation, Suffolk County Homicide Squad detectives arrested Korey Sammarco, 36, of Shirley, and Melissa Fawcett, 50, of Central Islip, on June 15 and charged them with Gang Assault in the First Degree.  

On June 19, police arrested Benjamin Sheppard, 33, of Central Islip. He was charged with two counts of Murder in the Second Degree and one count of Gang Assault in the First Degree.

Sammarco was overnight at the Third Precinct and Fawcett was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct. Both were arraigned on June 16 at First District Court in Central Islip. Sheppard was held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on June 20.
