A Ridge man with a pair of felony weapons convictions was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of robbing a Yaphank gas station at gunpoint.
On January 24, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Marion Maupin and his accomplice, Raiquan Davis, 28, of Coram, entered a Shell gas station in Yaphank. Both men were wearing hoodies and masks. While in the gas station, Davis acted as the lookout by the door, while Maupin pointed a loaded firearm at the clerk’s head, demanded money, and stole cash from the register. Maupin and Davis then fled the gas station in a white Cadillac.
Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department Fifth Precinct observed the Cadillac in Bellport and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Instead of stopping, Maupin and Davis led police on a pursuit lasting approximately 15 minutes, at points driving more than 100 miles per hour.
During the pursuit and while the car was still in motion, officers observed Maupin and Davis abandon the Cadillac and observed a firearm being thrown into a neighboring yard before the vehicle crashed into a telephone pole in front of a home daycare. Maupin and Davis attempted to flee on foot but were ultimately arrested in the daycare’s backyard. The firearm was recovered by law enforcement and was later determined to be loaded and operable.
On April 28, 2026, Maupin, 33, was convicted of the following charges after a jury trial heard before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei:
- Robbery in the First Degree, a Class B violent felony
- Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony
- Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, a Class A misdemeanor
In 2013, Maupin was sentenced to three years in prison after he was convicted of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. In 2019, Maupin was again convicted of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and sentenced to five years in prison. He was released to parole on January 23, 2023.
On July 15, 2026, as a result of the current felony, Maupin was deemed a persistent violent felony offender and was sentenced by Mazzei to 20 years to life in prison.
“New York’s parole system is broken. This defendant, with two prior weapons convictions, was not deterred by parole from arming himself and robbing a gas station at gunpoint,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “The people of Suffolk County deserve to be protected from repeat violent offenders such as this defendant, who was unfortunately on parole at the time of this crime instead of remaining in prison to complete his sentence.”
