Police: Man Allegedly Left 6-Year-Old Alone

Child Later Found at Community Center

A New Cassel man was arrested for allegedly leaving a child in the house by himself after leaving the residence. The child was later found at a local community center.

On August 1 at 8:15 p.m., Nassau County officers responded to the Town of North Hempstead Community Center, located at 141 Garden Street, for a report of a found juvenile. Upon arrival, they found an unattended six-year-old male.

After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the child was allegedly left in the care of a family friend, who then allegedly left the residence, leaving the child unattended. Rood-Diny Illus, 31, of New Cassel, was placed under arrest without incident. The child was evaluated at the scene by a Nassau County Police Medic and was released into the custody of a family member.

Police charged Illus with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was released on an Appearance Ticket returnable on August 13 to First District Court in Hempstead.
