A homeless man was arrested for allegedly trying to cut down a tree in an East Meadow park, although he was not allowed to do so.
Nassau County police officers from the Third Squad responded to Eisenhower Park, located at 1899 Hempstead Turnpike, for a Criminal Mischief report. Upon arrival, they learned that a male subject had allegedly attempted to cut down a tree without authorization to do so before leaving the scene. The Nassau County Parks Department staff responded and completely cut the tree down due to the danger it posed to falling over.
Officers conducted an investigation and soon after located Kendall Glass, 67, who was observed returning to the scene with a tree pruner to cut the fallen tree into smaller pieces. Further investigation revealed that the tree pruner was removed from a park facility maintenance building that is off-limits to the public. Glass was placed under arrest without further incident.
Police charged Glass with Burglary in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned on June 20 at First District Court in Hempstead.
