A man and a woman were arrested for their alleged roles in a robbery that occurred in an East Meadow parking lot.
On August 8 at 10:48 p.m., Nassau County police officers from the Third Squad responded to the parking lot of Just Salad, located at 2411 Hempstead Turnpike, for the report of a robbery. According to police, a 23-year-old victim was walking eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike when he was reportedly approached by two unknown subjects. The male subject allegedly struck the victim in the face multiple times with a closed fist, causing injury, and then allegedly forcefully removed his backpack. The subjects then allegedly removed the victim’s laptop, broke it and took the victim’s watch and other various electronic items before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction. The victim immediately called 911 and was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment.
After a thorough investigation, Mehmet A. Kumbasar, 24, of East Meadow and Ly-Neka M. Brown, 27, of Jamaica, Queens, were located and placed under arrest without incident. Additionally, Kumbasar was allegedly found to be in possession of a controlled substance.
Police charged Kumbasar with Robbery in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Brown was charged with Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree. They were scheduled to be arraigned on August 9 at First District Court in Hempstead.
