A man and a woman for Brooklyn were arrested for allegedly assaulting officers and resisting arrest during a traffic stop in Inwood.
On July 1, Nassau County officers conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law investigation at 6:16 p.m. on a male operating a moped with a female passenger in the vicinity of Burnside Avenue and Nassau Expressway. When officers approached, both individuals allegedly became aggressive and the male allegedly attempted to drive away.
Nicole Demmerele, 40, was then successfully placed under arrest. Jason Adams, 18, allegedly fled from the scene on foot. Nassau County Police Canine Unit (K9) responded to the scene to assist in the search for Adams, who was located nearby and placed under arrest.
Officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrests as the defendants were both allegedly violent and combative while resisting arrest. Demmerele was transported to an area hospital for an evaluation. Both injured officers were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Further investigation revealed that the moped was reported stolen out of New York City.
Police charged Adams with Assault in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, Resisting Arrest and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. Demmerele was charged with Assault in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree.
They were arraigned on July 2 at First District Court in Hempstead.
