New Hyde Park Woman Arrested for Endangering Welfare of a Child

A New Hyde Park woman was arrested after she allegedly left her two children unattended outside.

On July 16 at 1:15 p.m., Nassau County police officers responded to a New Hyde Park residence for a report of children being left unattended in a driveway. After an investigation, it was determined that Claudia Garcia Zelaya, 51, allegedly left her two-year-old and five-year old grandchildren home alone with a 13-year-old female relative. Further investigation  revealed that the 13-year-old allegedlt left home and the children were left unsupervised for an unknown amount of time.

Garcia Zelaya was placed under arrest without incident.  The two children were unharmed and released to a family member.

Police charged Garcia Zelaya with two counts of Endangering the Welfare  of a Child. She was arraigned on July 17 at First District Court in Hempstead.
