A Hicksville man associated with the street gang MS-13 was sentenced for predatory sexual assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and other charges for assaulting, threatening, and harassing a 32-year-old woman in 2023.
On August 26, 2023, Jayden Abadi Alvarado Velasquez met the victim at a neighborhood deli. The following day, he showed up at the victim’s apartment and threatened her at gunpoint, thereby commencing the months-long pattern of abuse.
The investigation revealed that, over the next several weeks, Alvarado Velasquez abused, threatened, and harassed the victim, culminating in a final sexual assault at gunpoint.
On November 26, 2023, the defendant smashed the victim’s cell phone and physically assaulted her during an altercation in her vehicle.
Alvarado Velasquez then drove the victim to a psychiatric center in Brentwood, where the incident escalated. The defendant threatened to cut off the victim’s hand and claimed to have murdered and buried a former girlfriend on the grounds. He threatened to kill and bury the victim in the same location. The defendant later drove the victim back to his house in Hicksville, where he sexually assaulted her.
On November 29, 2023, Alvarado Velasquez sent intimidating text messages to the victim, which included a video of two firearms he had previously used to threaten her life.
A search of Alvarado Velasquez’ bedroom by members of the Nassau County Police Department executed later that day yielded a handgun, a magazine, multiple rounds of ammunition, and multiple New York State ID cards with the defendant’s photo and different names. Detectives also recovered a loaded handgun, magazine, and ammunition from the defendant’s jacket that he had been wearing at the time.
The defendant was arrested on November 29, 2023, by Nassau County Police Department’s Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team.
Alvarado Velasquez, 40, was convicted on May 6, 2026, after a jury trial before Judge Robert McDonald of Predatory Sexual Assault (a Class A-II felony), three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (a Class C violent felony), Attempted Assault in the Second Degree (a Class E felony), two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, Assault in the Third Degree and Aggravated Harassment (all misdemeanors).
The defendant was sentenced on August 26, 2026 to 25 years to life in prison.
“The terror, manipulation, and violence that Jayden Abadi Alvarado Velasquez inflicted on his victim have finally come to an end,” said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly. “The defendant used fear and the constant threat of weapons to control the woman’s life, but her tremendous courage to come forward and speak out is what broke that control. We hope today’s sentence brings the victim a sense of peace, knowing this dangerous predator is off our streets and can no longer hurt her. This sentence serves as a warning that my office will use every tool at our disposal to hold violent abusers fully accountable for the pain and suffering they cause.”
