Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and the Suffolk County Police Financial Crimes Unit are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a man who stole $4,000 from a Melville resident’s bank account in a phone scam.
The victim was contacted on May 21 by a man claiming to be a representative from his bank. The caller told the victim his account had been compromised and instructed him to hand over his debit card for destruction and reissuance.
Shortly after, an unknown man arrived at the victim’s home and collected the card along with the PIN. Later that day, the stolen card was used at ATMs in Garden City and Valley Stream to withdraw a total of $4,000.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to submit an anonymous tip by calling 1-800-220-TIPS, using the P3 Tips mobile app, or online at www.P3Tips.com. All submissions will remain confidential.
