A Hempstead man was arrested for allegedly injuring a hospital employee and resisting arrest.
On July 18 at 6:30 p.m., Nassau County police officers were at Nassau University Medical Center, located at 2201 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow, on an unrelated assignment, when hospital staff approached them for assistance. The staff advised officers of an uncooperative patient. The hospital staff and officers advised the patient that he was discharged, and he allegedly immediately became aggressive and combative with officers.
While attempting to handcuff the subject, he allegedly swung his arm at officers and held on to the top of a desk to resist and prevent his arrest. The subject was later subdued and placed under arrest.
Officers were informed that, before their arrival, Emmanuel Okoro, 66, allegedly became aggressive and physical with a hospital staff member. Okoro allegedly grabbed the victim’s right wrist and twisted it. The victim suffered substantial pain and a bump on his wrist, causing issues with mobility.
Police charged Okoro with Assault in the Second Degree and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned on July 19 at First District Court in Hempstead.
