Homeless Man Arrested for Gun Possession, Menacing

A homeless man has been arrested for allegedly brandishing a firearm at three people in East Meadow.

On May 17 at 4:30 p.m., Nassau County officers from the First Squad responded to a disturbance in the vicinity of Meadowbrook Parkway and Front Street. When they arrived, it was determined that three male victims, ages 17, 18 and 20, while riding their bikes, were approached by Ramzee A. Mayo, 47, who displayed a firearm, placing them in fear for their lives. The victims immediately fled the scene and called 911. Mayo was located and placed under arrest without incident. The firearm was recovered at the scene.

Police charged Mayo with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree and three counts of Menacing in the Second Degree. Further investigation revealed the defendant also had an active Nassau County warrant.

He will be arraigned on May 18 at First District Court in Hempstead.
