Nassau County police arrested a homeless man for allegedly assaulting another man who worked at a West Hempstead laundromat.
On August 25 at 1:07 a.m., Kevin Jemerson, 48, entered the Laundry Palace located at 112 Hempstead Turnpike. While inside, he allegedly approached a 41-year-old male employee and struck him with his hands. The employee retreated to an employee-only area of the business to call 911. Jemerson allegedly followed the employee into the restricted area and forcibly removed the victim’s phone and threw it on the floor, preventing them from calling 911. The defendant then allegedly fled from the scene.
Officers located Jemerson nearby and placed him under arrest without incident. There were no injuries reported at the scene.
Police charged Jemerson with Burglary in the Third Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree and Harassment in the Second Degree. He was arraigned on August 25 at First District Court in Hempstead.
