DA: West Islip Woman Allegedly Stole $300K from Company

A West Islip woman was arrested for allegedly stealing over $300,000 from her West Babylon employer in her role as office manager.

Between January 2019 and August 2024, Patricia Sparby worked as an office manager at a West Babylon corporation. During that time, she allegedly stole over $300,000 by increasing her pay by thousands of dollars each week above what she was entitled to in her paychecks, without her employer’s permission.

On May 19, 2026, Sparby, 66, was arraigned on one count of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a  Class C felony, before District Court Judge F. Scott Carrigan, who ordered Sparby released without bail because her charge is considered non-bail eligible under current New York  State law.

“This defendant allegedly stole a significant amount of money from her employer by systematically inflating her own payroll disbursements beyond what she was lawfully owed,” said  Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “Thanks to the diligent work of the Suffolk County Police  Department’s Financial Crimes Unit and my office, we were able to uncover her deception and  place her under arrest for her crimes.”

Sparby is due back in court on June 9, 2026, and faces up to five to 15 years in prison if convicted.
