Suffolk County Police arrested a caregiver who allegedly stole jewelry from a mother and daughter in East Setauket.
Jackquilin Smith was a home health aide employee from Homewatch CareGivers, based in Hicksville. She was working at a residence in East Setauket for an 80-year-old woman and her 58-year-old daughter, who suffers from a degenerative neurological disorder. Smith allegedly stole jewelry, valued at approximately $9,850, from late April to late May. The family contacted the police when they noticed the jewelry was missing.
Following an investigation by Sixth Squad detectives, along with Sixth Precinct Investigative Unit officers, Smith was arrested at her residence inMedford on June 19 at approximately 3 p.m.
Smith, 40, was charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree. She was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on June 20.
