Brooklyn Man Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Police Officers

A Brooklyn man was arrested for allegedly assaulting two police officers during an incident in Lawrence.

On July 26 at 5:48 a.m., Nassau County police officers from the Fourth Squad were dispatched for a report of a vehicle stopped near the intersection of Nassau Expressway and Rock Hall Road with the operator appearing to be asleep. Upon arrival, they attempted to wake up the operator of the red Hyundai Santa Fe when he allegedly became combative and spat at officers. Two officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest as the defendant was allegedly violent and combative while resisting arrest.

Luis Chiguano Cuchiparte, 35, of 347A Bleecker Street, was taken into custody without further incident. An investigation that was conducted showed that Chiguano Cuchiparte was reportedly found to be intoxicated.

Both officers were transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. Defendant Luis Chiguano Cuchiparte was transported to a nearby hospital for assessment.

Police charged Chiguano Cuchiparte with two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest, Harassment in the Second Degree, Open Containers of Alcoholic Beverages in Vehicles, and a Vehicle and Traffic Law Infraction.  He will be arraigned on July 27 at First District Court in Hempstead.
