A Brentwood man was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty in June to stabbing his ex-wife more than 20 times outside a Bay Shore restaurant in November 2024.
On November 2, 2024 at about 8:15 a.m., the victim was stopped at the window of a McDonald’s drive-thru in Bay Shore when Willie Curry approached her car on an electric bicycle.
Curry ran to the opened driver’s side window and repeatedly stabbed the victim with a silver folding knife. As the victim screamed for help, good Samaritans in nearby cars and inside the restaurant called 911 and yelled for Curry to stop. The attack ended when the victim drove forward a short distance, and a witness got out of the vehicle to yell for Curry to leave the injured woman alone. Another good Samaritan went to check on the victim while on the phone with a 911 operator.
Curry was arrested near the scene of the crime shortly after the attack.
The victim was stabbed more than 20 times and sustained wounds to her neck, face, chest, leg and hands. She was transported to South Shore University Hospital for treatment and received multiple staples and stitches.
One day prior to the attack, the victim had obtained an order of protection against Curry from Family Court.
On June 22, 2026, Curry, 38, pleaded guilty before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a Class B violent felony.
On September 9, 2026, Curry was sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
“The victim did everything the system asks of a survivor. She broke ties with the defendant, went to court and obtained an order of protection. One day later, this defendant stabbed her more than 20 times in broad daylight,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “The plea and sentence reflect the seriousness of that violence, and I hope the victim can find some comfort knowing that the defendant will be unable to harm her or others for the next 15 years.”
