Bohemia Man Arrested for Theft in Construction Fraud Scheme

Suffolk County Police today arrested a Bohemia man for claiming to be an owner of a construction  company and stealing money for work that was never performed. 

An Amityville woman hired Paul Sanderson, who allegedly claimed to be the owner of a legitimate construction business, to renovate a storefront located at the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream. Sanderson allegedly went to the victim’s home, presented forged insurance documents and accepted payment of $16,500 for the project on March 30.  

Sanderson allegedly never delivered materials or began work. The victim contacted the construction company she believed she hired and learned Sanderson was not affiliated with the business. She reported the incident to police on June 16.  

Following an investigation by Financial Crimes Unit detectives, Sanderson was charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Identity Theft in the First Degree.  

Sanderson, 40, is scheduled for arraignment on August 3 at First District Court  in Central Islip.
