Music Store Moves into Baldwin Showroom

Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D-Freeport) and Legislator Scott M. Davis (D-Rockville Centre) joined the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, the Baldwin Civic Association, and Manny Alvarez, president of Kolstein Music, Inc., to celebrate the grand reopening of their new Baldwin showroom on April 28.

When Samuel Kolstein launched his business in Brooklyn in 1943, the music store specialized in manufacturing violins and bows. Since then, the business has grown to encompass the manufacturing and repair of a wide variety of stringed instruments. Based in Baldwin since 1980, Kolstein Music offers a selection of violins, violas, cellos, and basses, as well as bows, cases, and other accessories.

Kolstein Music is now based in the historic Koch Building, which has been meticulously restored after being vacant for an extended period of time. The grand reopening celebration included live performances by Eric Wheeler, Dr. Melanie Hill, and Mr. Ma on cello.

“During a six-decade career, Samuel Kolstein built an extraordinary legacy among musicians, and it is one that I am thrilled to see is still going strong,” Mulé said. “It was a pleasure to join Manny and the Baldwin community in celebrating this milestone. I wish you many more years of success and beautiful music!”

“Music and the arts enrich our lives in innumerable ways, and entities like Kolstein Music equip musicians around the world to create the sounds that make our hearts sing,” Davis said. “I wish you all the best on this new chapter, and I encourage everyone to learn about the remarkable history of Samuel Kolstein and Baldwin’s rich history of instrument making.”
