The Book Nook Is Also the Only Independent Book Shop in the Hamlet
Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D-Freeport) and Legislator Scott M. Davis (D-Rockville Centre) welcomed The Book Nook to Baldwin on July 2.
Upon its opening by husband-and-wife team Marlene Munn and Roberto Joseph, the shop became Long Island’s only Black-owned bookstore and the only independent bookstore currently operating in the Baldwin hamlet. This welcoming space offers a diverse collection of books for readers of all ages, including children’s books, young adult novels, mythology, African mythology, bilingual titles, and stories that celebrate diverse cultures and experiences.
“America’s bookstores are so much more than shops – they are beacons of literacy that shine a light on the beauty of the communities they serve,” Mulé said. “I wish Marlene and Roberto many years of tremendous success, and I encourage book lovers to shop local and support their inspiring vision.”
