A West Sayville woman was arrested for allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident after hitting a jogger in Sayville.
Police responded to a 911 call reporting an injured female lying on the side of Brook Street, west of Cherry Avenue, on May 16 at 5:44 a.m. An investigation determined Michele Walters was jogging at approximately 5:30 a.m. when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Walters, 60, of Sayville, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries.
The vehicle that fled is described as a dark-colored SUV and may have front-end damage and/or front passenger-side damage.
On May 19, following an investigation by Suffolk County Major Case Unit and Fifth Squad detectives, Fifth Precinct officers arrested Heather Foster, on Cherry Avenue, in Sayville at 9:28 a.m.
Major Case Unit detectives executed a search warrant at Foster’s home and seized evidence, including the 2021 Mazda CX 5 involved in the crash.
Foster, 50, was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Physical Injury. She was held at the Fourth Precinct, arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on May 20.
