Two Drivers Cited for Participating in Illegal Speed Contest

Suffolk County Police arrested two men for participating in an illegal speed contest on William Floyd Parkway early this morning.  

A Seventh Precinct patrol officer observed a 2019 Ford Mustang and 2023 Dodge Charger allegedly competing in a speed contest on southbound William Floyd Parkway, on May 26 at approximately 12:50 a.m. 

The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but both vehicles allegedly accelerated. The vehicles continued traveling southbound over the Smith Point Bridge, where they were stopped by additional police units.  

The driver of the Ford, Halee Salomon, 22, of Queens, and the driver of the Dodge, Jake Roth, 29, of  Lake Ronkonkoma, were cited for Unlawful Speed Contest, Unlawful Fleeing in the Third Degree, Reckless  Driving, and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.  

Both drivers were issued field appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear at First District Court in  Central Islip at a later date. The vehicles were seized and will remain impounded as evidence and may  be subject to forfeiture under local ordinance.
