Pedestrian Hit by Car; Driver Charged with DWI

An Oceanside man was arrested for allegedly driving drunk after he allegedly hit a pedestrian in Oceanside.

On June 18 at 4:41 p.m., a 78-year-old woman was walking on Long Beach Road. While crossing at the crosswalk of Weidner Avenue, she was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Express Van driven by a 24-year-old male. She was transported to an area hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.

An investigation at the scene determined that the driver, Niall Duignan, 24, was intoxicated. He was placed under arrest without incident.

Nassau County police charged Duignan with Driving While Intoxicated and Vehicular Assault in the Second Degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned on June 19 at First District Court in Hempstead.
