The New York State Police (NYSP) gave out more than 2,000 tickets during its first-ever Fall Safe Speed Initiative, which ran from September 22 to September 27. The purpose of this initiative was to target speeding, aggressive driving, and violations of the Move Over Law.
Troopers on Long Island issued 637 tickets for speeding, 17 for violating the Move Over Law and 1,351 for various Vehicle & Traffic Law (V&TL) infractions. That comes out to 2,005 in total.
The region had the third-lowest number of speeding tickets behind Troop B with 497 and Troop M with 74. Long Island was tied with Troop E and was next to last in Move Over violations; Troop M had the lowest with three. Additionally, Nassau and Suffolk Counties saw the third-lowest number of V&TL infractions behind Troop B (1,142) and Troop M (276).
As part of the enforcement campaign, troopers also targeted dangerous and aggressive drivers across the state. Statewide, the NYSP issued a total of 9,344 tickets for speeding, 415 for distracted driving, 603 for seatbelt violations and 492 for violating the Move Over Law. That is 10,854 tickets in total.
Although this is the first time conducting this initiative, there were significant increases in activity when compared to the same week last year. From September 23, 2025, through September 28, 2025, State Police issued a total of 12,040 tickets, including 3,826 for speeding and 166 for Move Over Law violations.
