Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a Nesconset man after his vehicle caught fire.
On July 3 at approximately 3:40 p.m., John Morici was driving down a driveway of a Nissequogue home in a 2002 Hyundai XG 350, when he left the pavement and drove off the driveway down a rear-yard embankment. The vehicle came to a stop and then caught fire.
Morici, 61, exited the vehicle, where he collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
The vehicle will be impounded for a safety check. Detectives are investigating whether the undercarriage struck an object, which caused the vehicle to catch fire.
