Man Arrested for DWI Following Crash into Construction Vehicle

Suffolk County Police last night arrested a man for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle crash into a construction vehicle in a construction zone in Brookhaven. 

John Arthur Seeger was driving a 2026 Hyundai Tucson westbound on Sunrise Highway between Exits 57 and 58 on August 27, when his vehicle allegedly entered a closed construction zone in the right lane and allegedly struck the driver’s side of an unoccupied construction vehicle, allegedly hitting the fuel tank and allegedly causing a fuel spill on the roadway, at 11:37 p.m. 

Suffolk County Highway Patrol, Selective Fatality Enforcement Team and Motor Carrier Safety Section responded to investigate the crash. The Department of Environmental Conservation responded to assess  the fuel leak.  

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours for cleanup and the crash investigation. Six  construction workers, who were on the scene at the time of the crash, were not injured.  

Seeger, 48, of Medford, was not injured in the crash. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He was also issued a traffic ticket for violation of the New York State Move Over Law. He is scheduled  to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 28.
