Suffolk County Police today arrested a Lake Ronkonkoma man for driving while ability impaired by drugs after his vehicle allegedly struck three construction workers, killing one and seriously injuring two.
Thomas Lobianco was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry eastbound in the westbound lane of Townline Road at the intersection with Terry Road on August 10 at approximately 6:40 a.m. when he allegedly drove his vehicle through a red light and then onto the sidewalk and struck three construction workers preparing for a paving project. After hitting the workers, the Toyota then struck an electronic crossing sign, a utility pole and a fence.
All three men were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where Joel Sicon-Porix, 38, of Mastic, was pronounced dead and Kevin Chavez-Sarmiento, 30, of Bay Shore, and Jose Gonzalez Colindres, 33, of Brentwood, were admitted for treatment of serious injuries.
Lobianco, 26, was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. He will be held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned on August 11 at First District Court in Central Islip.
