A Lindenhurst man pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and drunk driving charges for a high-speed, alcohol-fueled crash in September 2025 that killed a man returning home from work.
On September 3, 2025, at approximately 11:07 p.m., 55-year-old Craig White was driving home from work at AHRC Nassau in Freeport northbound on S. Long Beach Avenue through the intersection with Atlantic Avenue in Freeport.
Bryan Mizhirumbay was driving eastbound on Atlantic Avenue. As he approached the intersection with S. Long Beach Avenue, he was travelling at an excessive rate of speed, as high as 106 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone. Mizhirumbay failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and slammed into the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle.
The force of the impact drove both vehicles northeast across the intersection and westbound lanes of Atlantic Avenue.
The victim’s vehicle crashed through a fence on the property of Atlantic Nursery and the defendant’s vehicle came to rest on the westbound shoulder, where it became engulfed in flames.
White was discovered unconscious and trapped in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, which had been pushed into the passenger compartment due to the impact of the crash. He was transported to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Mizhirumbay was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment. Blood drawn from the defendant at the hospital revealed that his blood alcohol concentration was 0.18% approximately one hour after the crash.
A review of the defendant’s vehicle event data recorder uncovered that the defendant was driving at approximately 106 miles per hour three seconds before the crash. He collided with the victim’s vehicle at approximately 90 miles per hour with intermittent braking before impact.
Mizhirumbay surrendered on January 20, 2026, to the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad.
Mizhirumbay, 24, pleaded guilty before Judge Caryn Fink to Aggravated Vehicular Homicide (a Class B felony); Manslaughter in the Second Degree (a Class C felony); Assault in the Second Degree (a Class D violent felony); and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Per Se (an unclassified misdemeanor).
“Bryan Mizhirumbay spent the evening drinking on the job as he served customers at a local restaurant before getting behind the wheel and hurtling down Atlantic Avenue at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour,” said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly. “He ran multiple red lights, creating hazardous conditions for every driver sharing the road with him, until his reckless and wild driving turned deadly.”
Donnelly said White “dedicated himself to supporting and caring for people with special needs — a job that he loved — when his life was violently stolen. His painful and tragic loss cannot be undone with this plea, but I hope that Craig’s family, friends, and colleagues can find justice in the prison sentence this defendant will soon serve.”
Mizhirumbay is due back in court on November 2, 2026, and is expected to be sentenced to seven to 15 years in prison. NCDA recommended a sentence of seven to 18 years in prison.
