Nassau County police arrested five people for allegedly taking part in an illegal car meetup in Uniondale.
On August 18 at 10 p.m., Third Precinct Officers responded to Mitchel Field, located at 1 Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, for reports of an illegal car meetup. Upon arrival, officers observed approximately 150 vehicles gathered in the area. Due to the large scale of the meetup, multiple police units responded, including the Bureau of Special Operations (BSO), Strategic Response Team (SRT), Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team (CIRRT), Canine Unit (K9), Aviation and the Hempstead Police Department. Officers conducted Vehicle and Traffic Law (VTL) stops, resulting in the impoundment of 22 vehicles and the issuance of approximately 100 VTL summonses.
BSO Officers who had responded to the area observed a 2010 Volkswagen occupied by five people that was allegedly committing multiple VTL violations. Officers activated their emergency lights/sirens and conducted a VTL stop near the intersection of Charles Lindbergh Boulevard and Earle Ovington Boulevard. An investigation resulted in the recovery of an illegal loaded tan .22LR caliber 1911 German Sport Gun from inside the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, Maleyna Galeano, 18, Central Islip, and the four passengers — Nya Reeves, 20, and Joshlynn Almonte, 18, both of Central Islip and two male juveniles, ages 17 and 16 — were placed under arrest without further incident and their vehicle was impounded.
All five defendants are charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Galeano was additionally charged with multiple VTL infractions. The three adult defendants were arraigned on August 19 at First District Court in Hempstead. The two juvenile defendants were arraigned on August 19 at the Youth Section of First District Court in Hempstead.
Additionally, CIRRT officers who had responded to the area observed a black 2012 Audi occupied by just the driver, who committed multiple VTL violations. Officers activated their emergency lights/sirens and conducted a VTL stop near the intersection of Charles Lindbergh Boulevard and West Road. An investigation resulted in a forged NYS inspection sticker being used on the vehicle and a wooden baton located in the trunk. Jordi Perez, 28, of West Babylon, was placed under arrest without further incident, and his vehicle was impounded.
Police charged Perez with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, Inspection Display Forged and Multiple VTL infractions. He was arraigned on August 19 at First District Court in Hempstead.
