E-Bike Rider Seriously Injured in Crash in Amityville

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a crash that seriously injured a man on an e-bike in North Amityville.  

On June 5, James Lee Kelly was driving a 2007 Honda Civic northbound on County Line Road, passing through a green light at the intersection of West Oak Street, when an e-bike traveling eastbound on West Oak Street struck the driver’s side of the Honda, at approximately 8:20 p.m.  

The e-bike operator, Matthew Axmacher, 41, of East Massapequa, was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries. Kelly, 39, of North Amityville, was not injured.  

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
