Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a crash in which a child struck his grandmother this morning.
An 8-year-old child entered his grandmother’s 2016 Honda that was parked on a driveway of a Lindenhurst residence and pushed the start button. Gina Bente, the grandmother, noticed her vehicle going down the driveway and attempted to enter the vehicle to stop it. The driver’s side door struck her, and she fell to the ground, striking her head on the pavement. The vehicle struck a curb and stopped in the middle of the road.
Bente, 63, was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip in serious condition. The child was not injured.
