Suffolk County Police have arrested 15 people and impounded seven vehicles after a street takeover in Medford.
Through intelligence gathering and social media monitoring, the Street Takeover Task Force, assisted by multiple Suffolk County Police commands, learned that a street takeover was allegedly being planned in Suffolk County on August 14, at an unknown location.
The Task Force successfully tracked the group through numerous locations, deterring them and preventing takeovers at locations at Commack Road and Sunrise Highway in Islip, and then Route 112 and Main Street in Patchogue, before intercepting them at Woodside Avenue and Sawgrass Drive in Medford at approximately 12:50 a.m. on August 15.
Numerous vehicles allegedly effectively closed down the roadway on Sawgrass Drive by driving recklessly, performing stunts in the roadway, and doing donuts and burnouts. Members of the Street Takeover Task Force responded and arrested 15 people and impounded seven vehicles. Additionally, multiple traffic tickets were issued for various infractions.
The following people were arrested and charged with Participation in Unlawful Speed Contest and Spectating Unlawful Speed Contest:
- Zachaly Torresduran, 20, of New York
- Jose Mendozagua, 19, of Westbury
- Amanda Tucker, 18, of North Babylon
- Frank Spingola, 21, of Deer Park
- Ahad Hotaki, 19, of Hicksville
- Marvin Chavez, 18, of Hicksville
- Djurabe Edmond, 18, of Westbury
- Joseph Wheeler, 23, of East Islip
The following people also had their vehicles impounded:
- Marcello Martinez, 21, of North Babylon
- Johnathan Edouard, 22, of Roosevelt
- Borys Lozanosanchez, 20, of New York
- Muzamil Hotaki, 20, of Flushing
- Alexander Lopes, 18, of Hicksville
- Declan Tymon, 18, of Lynbrook
Jeremy Geevarghese, 22, of North Bellmore, was only charged with Participation in Unlawful Speed Contest. His vehicle was also impounded.
They are scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.
