To the Editor:
Teachers should be suspended without pay if they bring their own bias into the classroom (“America Didn’t Invent Slavery. It Helped End It.,” July 7, 2026).
If the subject in class is math, English, science, etc., that needs to be the curriculum; anything else should not be tolerated.
Also, let’s bring back American history as a course requirement. I hate to keep hearing that we are racist and come from a history of slavery. Students need to be taught that it didn’t take the USA long to abandon slavery. Let’s teach how many years slavery existed in places like Egypt, Rome, Africa and even our own native America.
It seems that it’s believed by many that the USA invented slavery. Do these same people know there are slaves today in other parts of the world?
Let’s start educating our young.
